Daines, Zinke Statement on Pacific International Terminals, Inc. Pausing the Gateway Pacific Terminal Review

U.S. CONGRESS — Montana Senator Steve Daines and Representative Ryan Zinke today issued the following statement after Pacific International Terminals, Inc. announced that they are voluntarily requesting the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) to pause the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal (GPT) infrastructure project.  “The federal government is clearly slow walking the approval process on the Gateway Pacfiic Terminal as part of its effort to destroy coal jobs,” Daines stated. “The Gateway Pacific Terminal would provide access to international markets for Montana coal and agriculture products – including Crow coal – creating much needed good-paying union and tribal jobs.

Daines, Zinke Fight Latest Effort to Terminate Port of Raymond 24-Hour Operating Status

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Montana Senator Steve Daines and Representative Ryan Zinke today urged U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials to reverse their latest plans to reduce operating hours at the Port of Raymond and terminate the northeastern Montana border crossing’s 24-hour operating status.   CBP recently announced new plans to implement a pilot program closing the Port of Raymond for six hours per day, between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.  In a letter to CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske, Daines and Zinke criticized CBP for their short-sighted efforts to once again reduce operating hours following their failed efforts to do so last November. “Past

Daines, Zinke Congratulate Rob McCarvel of Helena on Receiving West Point Academy Appointment

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Steve Daines and Representative Ryan Zinke today congratulated Helena student Rob McCarvel on his appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Daines and Zinke spoke to McCarvel this morning to personally congratulate him on his appointment. McCarvel, a senior at Capital High School in Helena, played American Legion Baseball and is on his high school’s varsity football team. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Green Club and He-Man Book Club. He earned a First Degree Taekwondo Black Belt and volunteers his time mentoring freshman students as part of the Link Crew. 

Daines, Zinke Call on Governor Bullock to Issue Full Approval of the Montanore Project

U.S. CONGRESS – Senator Steve Daines and Representative Ryan Zinke are calling on Governor Steve Bullock and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to expeditiously issue full approval for the Montanore Project, which would create much-needed jobs and economic opportunity in Lincoln County.  After more than a decade, the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Montanore project was recently completed, clearing the way for the U.S. Forest Service and MDEQ to issue Records of Decision approving of Montanore’s plan of operations and required permits. MDEQ is considering a phased approval of the project, which would be inconsistent with the
