Daines: “The Big Beautiful Bill is a Win for Montana”

Will Join President Trump at White House as President Signs Daines Priorities Into Law

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines will join President Trump at the White House today for the signing of the Big Beautiful Bill, which includes an enormous list of Daines priorities.  The legislation also prevents the largest tax increase in American history, makes the tax cuts permanent and provides funding for border security and the military.

“The Big Beautiful Bill is a win for Montana and there is no better way to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day than with the signing of this legislation. The Big Beautiful Bill will benefit Montana for generations to come and ensure that we remain The Last Best Place.  I’m thrilled we delivered the largest tax cut in American history and tax certainty for families and small businesses, as well as funding for the border and for our great military, and I cannot wait to see the President sign this bill into law,” said Daines.

Daines Priorities in the Big Beautiful Bill:

Tax Relief for Montana Families:

  • Daines’ Main Street Tax Certainty Act makes President Trump’s 20 percent pass-through business tax deduction permanent and prevents a massive tax hike on small businesses. The 20 percent small business deduction, section 199A, levels the playing field between small businesses and large corporations. This is crucial, as small businesses employ over 65 percent of Montana’s workforce and represent 99 percent of all businesses in Montana.
  • No Tax on Tips prevents tips from being taxed as part of federal income. This legislation will benefit Montana’s service industry in particular.
  • Permanent extension of an increased death tax exemption willl protect Montana’s family farms and ranches from burdensome federal taxes. Daines has been advocating for this since 2019.
  • New Markets Tax Credit will spur investment in rural and low-income communities..
  • ALIGN Act makes permanent the expensing of business equipment.
  • American Innovation and Jobs Act invests in American innovation and technology to ensure the U.S. maintains its competitive edge over China while promoting high-paying U.S. technology and manufacturing jobs.

Unleashing Made in Montana Energy, Encouraging Responsible Forestry Management, and Expanding Conservation and Hunting Access:

  • Mandatory Timber sales on Forest Service and BLM land will expand America’s timber production, will support logging jobs, and reduce the risk of wildfires.
  • Allowing mining at the Bull Mountains Mine will provide high-paying jobs and an economic boost to the community.

Supporting Rural Health:

  • Daines’ Telehealth Expansion Act makes expanded access to telehealth services permanent, which is critical for providing affordable access to health care for rural America.

Protecting Montanans’ 2nd Amendment Rights:

  • Daines’ provision to eliminate the $200 National Firearms Act (NFA) excise tax on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and any other weapons (AOWs) was also included- Daines helped introduce the SHORT Act in 2023 and the Hearing Protection Act in 2021 and has been fighting to fully repeal these unconstitutional NFA taxes since.
