Daines to Google: Must Protect Americans’ Privacy

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines sent a letter requesting answers from Google on what procedures they are putting in place to protect Americans’ health information.

“[O]ne of my top priorities in Congress is upholding the privacy rights of Montanans, and all Americans, and ensuring there are robust safeguards in place to protect sensitive patient data,” Daines wrote. “In light of recent reports regarding ‘Project Nightingale,’ I am concerned about how patient information is being collected and stored and believe it is critical that we ensure sensitive health data is handled properly and lawfully.”

The letter follows recent reports that at least 150 Google employees already have access to much of the data on tens of millions of patients.

A federal inquiry has been opened into Google’s effort to collect the personal health data of millions of Americans through its initiative titled, ‘Project Nightingale.’
