Daines Statement in Colstrip Closures

U.S. SENATE– U.S. Senator Steve Daines today issued the following statement on Colstrip closures.

“This is a sad day for Montana, the Colstrip community and our energy security,” Daines said. “Today’s news is yet another example of the devastating impacts of extreme environmental regulations, fringe litigation and partisan politics. I worked hard to find a solution and it’s truly disheartening to see Units 1 & 2 be forced to close. All Montanans need to come together to preserve Units 3 & 4 as a part of Montana’s energy portfolio for decades to come. I stand with the Colstrip community, and will continue my fight in Washington, D.C.”

Background:

Senator Daines has been tirelessly working to find a path forward to ensure Colstrip’s Generating Station remained an asset to Montana and the surrounding communities.

Governor Inslee, partisan politics, heavy-handed environmental regulations, renewable subsidies, and other factors have all impacted the future of Colstrip Units 1 & 2.

The Judge who approved consent decree was Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch serving underneath Judge Dana Christensen appointed by the Obama administration.
