Daines: Obama's Anti-Gun Agenda, Plan to Ban M855 Ammunition Must Be Stopped

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Steve Daines today called on the Obama administration to halt its anti-Second Amendment agenda and abandon the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) plan to ban the manufacturing, importation and sale of ammunition for one of the most common rifles in the United States: the AR-15.

In a letter sent to B. Todd Jones, Director of the ATF, Daines condemned the ATF for overstepping its mission by moving to restrict M855 ammunition, which is primarily used for sporting purposes.

Daines blasted the ATF’s action as an infringement upon the rights of lawful Montana sportsmen and gun owners and Montana’s hunting and shooting traditions.

“President Obama’s anti-Second Amendment agenda is once again on full display as he attempts to ban ammunition used by countless law-abiding sportsmen and gun-owners,” Daines stated. “The Obama administration’s blatant disregard for the Second Amendment and efforts to restrict Montanans’ right to keep and bear arms through unilateral action must be stopped.  I will continue fighting to protect Montanans’ Second Amendment rights and halt any efforts to infringe upon our Constitutional freedoms.”

Daines is a vocal supporter of Second Amendment rights and has repeatedly stood up to the Obama administration’s efforts to restrict Americans’ freedoms. He has stood firm against any legislation and overreach by the Obama administration that threatens Montanans’ rights to keep and bear arms.

In the House, Daines led efforts to block sweeping restrictions on firearms and legislation to create new “universal background checks” that would create more red tape for lawful gun owners.
