Daines Marks National School Choice Week

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines this week introduced two measures to empower local control of schools and education.

Daines’ Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success (A-PLUS) Act allows educational dollars to go where they are needed to best fit students’ unique needs, frees states from burdensome federal regulations and better ensures academic achievement in schools.

Additionally, Daines introduced a U.S. Senate resolution recognizing the importance of providing parents and families with more flexibility and choice in educating their children and designating the week of January 22, 2017 as National School Choice Week. The resolution passed the Senate unanimously on January 24, 2017.

“We need to empower parents to have greater control over their children’s education so they can reach their full academic potential,” Daines stated. “The A-PLUS Act will expand local control of schools and return federal education dollars where they belong: closer to the classrooms.”

U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-NC) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
