Daines: Kelly Confirmed for DHS Secretary

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), General John F. Kelly. 

“Secretary Kelly will protect the homeland from threats,” Daines stated. “My family and I will sleep better at night knowing that General Kelly is the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.”

On January 10, 2017, Daines questioned Kelly during the nomination hearing in the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Daines asked Kelly how he would protect American citizen’s sensitive information from a cyberattack. 

On January 9, 2017, Daines met with Kelly in his Washington, D.C. office. During the meeting Kelly committed to coming to Montana to tour the northern border.
