Daines Introduces Constitutional Amendment to Prohibit Burning the American Flag

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today is continuing his fight to prohibit the physical desecration of the American flag. Daines reintroduced a constitutional amendment on Flag Day.

“The American flag is a symbol of liberty and a beacon of hope. It represents the ideals that our nation was built upon and for decades, brave men and women have carried its colors into battle to defend the United States of America,” Daines said. “The Stars and Stripes are a representation of freedom. We must always protect and respect the American flag.”

Senators Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.) and Kevin Cramer (N.D.) joined Daines as cosponsors.

Background:

In 2018, Daines commemorated national Flag Day on the floor of the U.S. Senate by highlighting his constitutional amendment to prohibit the burning of the American flag.

Daines led this effort in the 115th and 116th Congresses.

The Fraternal Order of Police and various Montana Veterans Service Organizations are supportive of the amendment, including the American Legion of Montana and the Department of Montana Veterans of Foreign Wars.
