Daines: Gorsuch Confirmed for U.S. Supreme Court

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement after Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice: 

“Judge Gorsuch is mainstream and he’s not going to legislate from the bench. As a fellow westerner, he will uphold our Montana values and defend our Second Amendment rights. The Senate did its job and I look forward now to seeing Judge Gorsuch on the court.”

Gorsuch has widespread support from mainstream groups across Montana. Daines has consistently underscored the reasons why Gorsuch belongs on the U.S. Supreme Court.

On April 6, 2017, Daines took to the Senate floor following Senate Democrats unprecedented use of the filibuster on a U.S. Supreme Court nominee.

On April 5, 2017, Daines stood on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court outlining the reasons for the U.S. Senate to confirm Gorsuch.

On April 4, 2017, Daines wrote an editorial about the importance of confirming Gorsuch noting, “Judge Gorsuch has impeccable legal qualifications demonstrating that he will be the type of justice that every American deserves on our nation’s highest court.” 

On April 4, 2017, the Montana Shooting Sports Association endorsed Gorsuch.

On April 4, 2017, Daines spoke on the Senate floor in support of Gorsuch’s nomination noting that, “the U.S. Senate is on the precipice of confirming Neil Gorsuch to be our next U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice.” 

On March 31, 2017, Judge Russell Fagg, Thirteenth Judicial District, Judge Jeffrey Langton, Twenty-First Judicial District, Judge John Larson, Fourth Judicial District and State Senator Nels Swandal, retired Judge Sixth Judicial District endorsed Gorsuch.

On March 30, 2017, the Montana Farm Bureau, Montana Grain Growers Association, Montana Wool Growers Association and the Montana Stockgrowers Association endorsed Gorsuch. 

On March 29, 2017, Montana’s Speaker of the House Austin Knudsen and Montana State Auditor Matt Rosendale endorsed Gorsuch.

On March 28, 2017, Montana’s Attorney General Tim Fox endorsed Gorsuch.

On March 27, 2017, the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of the Fort Peck Reservation, the Fort Belknap Indian Community and the Crow Tribe endorsed Gorsuch. 

On March 15, 2017, Daines participated in a discussion at the White House with tribal nations on Judge Gorsuch’s strong judicial record on cases pertaining to federal Indian law, including support for tribal sovereignty and religious freedom.

On March 15, 2017, Daines spoke on the U.S. Senate floor about the importance of confirming Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. 

On February 23, 2017, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes endorsed Gorusch.

On February 9, 2017, Daines met Gorsuch in his Washington, D.C. office where they discussed the Founders’ intent in the Constitution, Second Amendment, separation of powers, the role of government and federalism and the Fourth Amendment.

On January 31, 2017, Daines praised Donald J. Trump’s pick of Gorsuch to be the next Associate Justice.
