Daines: DeVos Confirmed for Secretary of Education

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, Betsy DeVos.

“Betsy DeVos will work to bring education decisions back to our communities where they belong,” Daines stated. “I look forward to working alongside Secretary DeVos to increase local control of our schools with ideas that originate from the parents, teachers and administrators who are closest to the classroom.”

Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen: “I am optimistic for change at the U.S Department of Education. I look forward to working with Secretary DeVos and I will be inviting her to visit Montana’s public schools to understand the importance of local control, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities that frontier schools face. I have consistently said that Montana will have a strong voice at the federal level on education policy.”

Immediately following DeVos’ confirmation, Daines wrote to DeVos noting that he looked forward to working with her “to help promote local control of education and ensure all students and families, whether in K-12 or in higher education, are able to have options and access to a high quality education.”

On January 5, Daines met with DeVos in Washington, D.C. office where they discussed the importance of local control of education.
