Daily Inter Lake: Montana Sen. Daines honors three Kalispell students who were heroes of recent fire

Three Flathead High School students who saved an Inter Lake reporter from a house fire last week have been recognized as “outstanding” Montanans by Sen. Steve Daines.

Daines today announced a new effort to recognize “Montanans who exemplify the Treasure State’s strong legacy of community spirit and leadership.”

The inaugural award for “Montanan of the Week” went to three Kalispell students — Tanner Archuleta, Jacob Javorsky and Amanda Buxton — who recently helped save the occupants of a burning home. The students alerted first responders to the house fire and worked to awaken the building’s residents, including Daily Inter Lake reporter Ryan Murray.

Daines submitted a statement of recognition commending Archuleta, Javorsky and Buxton in the Congressional Record, the document that reflects the official proceedings of Congress.

“Tanner, Jacob and Amanda deserve much recognition for their ability to act quickly and selflessly in an emergency,” Daines said in the official record. “Their quick thinking saved the life of a fellow Montanan. They are admirable young Montanans and deserve endless thanks.”

Daines invites anyone to nominate “Montanans of the Week” by calling his office at 202-224-2651 or by filling out the contact form on Daines’ website: http://www.daines.senate.gov/content/contact-steve.

“In Montana, we have some of the most compassionate, hardworking and dedicated folks in the nation,” Daines said in a press release. “The ‘Montanan of the Week’ initiative will work to give much deserved recognition to Montanans who do extraordinary things each and every day. I’m excited for this opportunity to highlight the great people of Montana and our state’s strong legacy of service.”
