Daines Condemns Transfer of 15 Guantanamo Detainees
BOZEMAN, Mont. — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today condemned the Obama administration following reports that 12 Yemeni nationals and three Afghans were transferred from Guantanamo Bay. “Terrorists captured by U.S. forces belong in Guantanamo, not in custody of a nation that may allow them to return to the battlefield as we have seen before,” Daines stated. “This President is more focused on releasing dangerous terrorists to fulfill a campaign promise than protecting our national security.” On May 26, Daines introduced legislation to temporarily ban the transfer or release of detainees from Guantanamo Bay until either the end of this year or enactment of the National Defense Authorization
Daines: Wildfires underscore need to reform forest management
The Roaring Lion Fire, burning over 7,000 acres southwest of Hamilton, has already claimed one life and over 60 homes and structures. As fighters continue to battle the blaze, the destruction only underscores the importance of urgently passing forest reform legislation. Each summer that passes without comprehensive forest management reform is another summer when Mother Nature takes the matter into her own hands, filling our skies with the smoke of catastrophic wildfires. During a visit to the Roaring Lion Fire camp, I was able to visit with many of the men and women battling the fire and speak to them

Billings Gazette: International visitors craving authentic Indian Country experiences
When tourists — particularly international visitors — come to Indian Country, they’re eager to become immersed in an authentic experience, like being paired with a tribal elder to learn how to weave a beautiful basket. Anna Barrera can show visitors true authenticity — maybe even help arrange the trip of a lifetime — with just a few keystrokes. Barrera and her mentor, Edward Hall, transportation specialist and tourism coordinator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, were co-presenters during the second day of the annual economic development and procurement conference put on by the Native American Development Corporation. Daines Submits Comments to BLM for Review of Federal Coal Program
U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced that the coal scoping meeting he hosted in Billings generated 68 comments to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for their review of the federal coal program. On June 21, Daines held a public scoping meeting in Billings to ensure that the Department of Interior (DOI) hears the voices that will be most impacted by their review of the federal coal program. Montana has the nation’s largest estimated recoverable coal reserves. “It’s great that Montanans have been able to make their voices heard in decisions that affect their families’ ability to put food on the table,” Daines
The Hill: Highlighting contributions of entrepreneurs, startup companies
For many Americans, a cornerstone of the American Dream is the opportunity to take an idea and turn it into a successful business. Our nation’s economic prosperity was built on a foundation of American ingenuity and the drive to turn dreams into reality. As members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, we share a common goal of supporting the small businesses that are a key part of the American economy. This year we are joining together to celebrate the 4th Annual Startup Day Across America, an effort to highlight the critical contributions entrepreneurs and startup companies make to our
