WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced that his bill, the “BABES Enhancement Act,” has been signed into law by President Trump. The bill makes it easier for parents to travel with breast milk and formula and is a major win for families in Montana and across the nation.
“I’m thrilled to see our bipartisan BABES Enhancement Act officially signed into law by President Trump. Being a mom is already a tough job, and this new law will make it easier for mothers to safely transport breast milk and formula while traveling. This is a big win for families, and I’m proud to see it signed into law.” said Daines.
Daines’ bipartisan “BABES Enhancement Act” requires the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to clarify and regularly update guidance on handling breast milk, baby formula and other related breastfeeding products in consultation with leading maternal health groups. The bill will help eliminate risks for mishandled breast milk and breastfeeding supplies as it can become contaminated.
Daines introduced the bill with Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) in January 2025- read the release HERE.
Specifically, the bill requires TSA to:
- Issue guidance promoting the hygienic handling of any breast milk, baby formula and other infant nutrition products, as well as accessories required to preserve these products;
- Consult with nationally recognized maternal health organizations in establishing and communicating this guidance; and
- Update guidance every five years to respond to emerging needs of parents and to account for developments in technology.
