“Laughable that Chuck Schumer is Calling Spending Cuts a Threat to America”
U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today joined Fox Business to discuss the importance of federal spending cuts in the upcoming rescissions package and the need for possible regime change in Iran.

Watch the full interview HERE.
Daines on Schumer’s attacks on the rescissions package:
Well, look, we’ve got to capitalize on the great work the DOGE team did to find ways to reduce federal spending. It’s laughable to think that Chuck Schumer is calling this toxic and a grave threat to America. But keep in mind, this is about $9 billion of spending reductions. The federal government spends $7 trillion a year. That’s 0.1 percent of spending reductions. Imagine if you’re a small business owner or a large business and you said we need to cut 0.1 percent from our budget. You do that in about an hour. So it’s a laughable thing that Democrats are having such a fit about this. We’ve got to start bending the spending curve. This is a good first step.
Daines on the need for spending cuts:
Well, look, we’ve got to get our message out as well. They’re very good about screaming on cuts. We’ve got to talk about the importance of being more responsible in managing and being better stewards of the taxpayer dollars. Look, we’re $37 trillion in debt. It’s one of the greatest threats to our country is our debt. Republicans need to stand firm, keep telling the American people we are being much better stewards of finding ways of spending your tax dollars much more effectively and efficiently, and with full -throated pushback, get our message back out.
Daines on Iran regime change:
Well, to be clear, I would not support putting boots on the ground in Iran, but regime change is something we should be aspiring to. It’s remarkable to think that you go back to October 7th of 2023, that horrible, terrible terror attack by Hamas on the innocent Israelis. And here we are now in July at a moment when Hamas has been neutralized. Hezbollah is on its heels. The Houthis are on their heels. The Iranians now, from a military viewpoint, are on their heels. The Israelis control their airspace. And thanks to the decisiveness of both Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump, we have set back their nuclear capabilities by years. This is a moment now we should be thinking about hoping for a regime change. Most of the Iranian people, most of them, want to see different leadership in Tehran. And until we put leaders in place who stop saying things like death to America, death to Israel, to seek the destruction of Israel, to seek the destruction of America, we’re never going to see the kind of peace that should come from the changes going right now in Iran. So regime change is something that we should be working towards. I think sanctions and tightening up the economic grip on Iran is one peaceful way to drive this.
