Daines Introduces Constitutional Amendment to Protect American Flag from Desecration

U.S. SENATE
 – U.S. Senator Steve Daines introduced a resolution ahead of Flag Day on June 14th that would amend the constitution to restore the authority of Congress to protect our national emblem of freedom by prohibiting the desecration of the American flag.

“The American Flag is a sacred symbol of freedom, unity, and the sacrifice of generations of Americans who fought to defend our way of life. It has been carried into battle, lifted in moments of triumph, and draped over the caskets of our fallen heroes. Congress should have the authority to protect the dignity of the flag from those who seek to desecrate it,” said Daines.

Daines has introduced this Constitutional amendment every year since 2017. Congressman Steve Womack introduced the companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. The reintroduction coincides with Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the U.S. Flag by Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
