Daines Statement on One-Year Anniversary of Spy Balloon Debacle

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of Montanan Larry Mayer spotting the Chinese spy balloon over Billings, Montana. For a year, Daines has been working to hold the Biden administration responsible for this egregious breach of national security.

“One year ago today the country became aware of a Chinese spy balloon flying directly over our country, including over Malmstrom’s missile fields housing the most powerful nuclear weapons on the planet. Despite the Biden administration’s attempts to cover it up and hide it from the American people, Larry Mayer of Billings spotted the balloon, and the public became aware of this brazen violation of our sovereignty by the CCP. For a year now, the Biden administration has refused to answer vital questions and tried to brush this national security debacle under the rug. Montanans still deserve answers, and I’ll keep pushing for accountability so this never happens again.”

Daines was the first member of Congress to press the Biden administration after the Chinese spy balloon was spotted.

Since last February, Daines has followed up with the Administration several times seeking answers and accountability. See all of Daines’ work on the Chinese spy balloon HERE.
