Daines to Introduce Amendments to FY2024 NDAA to Bolster National Security, Support Montana Service Members

Amendments Would Address Chinese Spy Balloon, Drag Shows at Military Bases and Side Effects of the COVID-19 Vaccine

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the list of amendments he plans to introduce next week as part of the “National Defense Authorization Act” (NDAA), including legislation to crack down on Chinese espionage, ban drag shows on U.S. military bases and launch an investigation into potential side effects of the previously mandated COVID-19 vaccine for U.S. service members.

Daines introduced a bill this week that would ensure the U.S. Department of Treasury works with the Department of Commerce to identify various institutions as restricted trade partners if they are associated with either the Chinese military or intelligence services, or if they helped facilitate aerial operations to spy on the U.S. This legislation follows recent reports that China used American technology on the Chinese spy balloon. He was the first member of the Montana delegation to do so.

“From the spy balloon in our skies to drag shows for children on our military bases, Montana has been ground zero for the repercussions of Joe Biden’s weakness. Enough is enough,” said Daines. “The NDAA is an opportunity to bolster U.S. national security, push back on the wokeness and weakness of the Biden administration and send a reminder to the rest of the world that America’s military remains the best in the world. I will always fight for Montana service members and push back on the Biden administration’s radical agenda that is making America less safe.”

Daines Sponsored Amendments in NDAA:

  • #436 – China Sanctions – impose sanctions on entities associated with Chinese espionage, including the Chinese spy balloon. Daines also introduced this legislation as a standalone bill earlier this week.
  • #434 – Prohibition on Cabaret Performances on U.S. military bases – Daines previously introduced this legislation as a standalone bill.
  • #461 – Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Proprietary Label Brief – require the Department of Defense (DoD) to brief Congress on why the is cancelling small business contracts.
  • #433 – Covid Vaccine Heart Study – mandates a DoD study regarding the emergence of heart conditions in service members who received the Covid vaccine.
  • #435 – Improve Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs – provide an avenue of funding mechanisms for emerging technology projects to strengthen U.S. national security and global competitiveness.

Daines has a history of securing big wins for Montana service members and U.S. national security in the NDAA, including a pay increase for U.S. service members, repealing the vaccine mandate for service members and keeping women out of the draft. See information on some of these wins HERE
