Daines Releases First Video in Series Illustrating Montanans’ Struggles with Fentanyl on National Fentanyl Awareness Day
U.S. SENATE – On National Fentanyl Awareness Day, U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced he is launching a video series highlighting Montanans affected by the fentanyl crisis in Montana. Each week, Daines will highlight a video on his social media channels of a Montanan talking about how President Biden’s failure to secure the southern border and stop the flow of fentanyl into Montana communities affects them personally.
This week, Senator Daines is highlighting Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short. Sheriff Short explains the dangers of fentanyl in small Montana communities and expresses his support for Senator Daines’ bill to designate drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

“Fentanyl is barreling through Joe Biden’s wide-open border and continues to devastate Montana families and communities,” Daines said. “We must continue to empower our Montana law enforcement, like Sherriff Short, with every resource available to stop the destruction the fentanyl epidemic is having on our Montana communities.”
Since Biden took office, more than 35,000 pounds of fentanyl have been seized at the border since Biden took office. Drug overdoses, largely driven by fentanyl, are now the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18-45.
This week, Title 42, a public health order which allows for the rapid expulsion of illegal migrants and asylum seekers, is set to expire without any action from the Biden administration to maintain or extend it. This past weekend, there were 26,382 migrant apprehensions in a three-day period, along with 7,399 ‘got-a-ways’. These numbers are only expected to increase once Title 42 ends.
