“Well thanks for joining us today to celebrate the signing of the Great American Outdoors Act. This is the greatest conservation achievement in 50 years and I’m so thankful for so many who are here,” Daines said.

Daines was joined by leaders from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Montana Trout Unlimited, Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Outfitters and Guides, PERC, Simms Fishing, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Boone and Crockett Club, the Trust for Public Land, the Montana Wild Sheep Foundation, Yellowstone National Park, Park County, and the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce among others.

Daines’ conservation bill, which has now been signed into law, provides full, mandatory funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addresses the maintenance backlog facing national parks and public lands.

Daines successfully led the efforts in Congress to get this bill on the President’s desk after securing President Trump’s support at a meeting in the White House in late February. At the meeting Daines talked about the importance of LWCF and fixing the maintenance backlog at our national parks and public lands, including showing pictures of Montana LWCF projects and the outdoors.

Daines’ leadership on this major conservation victory has received significant praise from the nation’s conservation and outdoors leaders, including President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Background:

Daines’ “Great American Outdoors Act” requires full, mandatory funding of LWCF at $900 million. Daines’ bill also helps fix the $11.9 billion maintenance backlog facing national parks across the nation, including over $700 million in Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks.
