Daines Announces Firefighting Grants to Three Western Montana Communities

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced firefighting grant funding for three fire departments in Western Montana communities. The City of Deer Lodge Volunteer Fire Department, Charlo/Moiese Rural Fire District, and Corvallis Rural Fire District all received funds as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

“It is vital that we give our first responders in rural communities the resources that they need to protect lives and property. I’m glad to see these much-needed funds awarded to Deer Lodge, Charlo, and Corvallis,” Daines said.

City of Deer Lodge Volunteer Fire Department will receive $296,214 for vehicle acquisition.

Charlo/Moiese Rural Fire District will receive $300,000 for vehicle acquisition.

Corvallis Rural Fire District will receive $568,637 as part of a regional request.

Background:

The AFG Program of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an important component of the larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.

The purpose of the AFG Program is to award grants directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations, and state fire training academies to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel. Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG Program.
