Montana Congressional Delegation Congratulates Maren Kirkland of Billings on Receiving Naval Academy Appointment

U.S. CONGRESS – Senators Steve Daines and Jon Tester and Representative Ryan Zinke congratulated Billings Senior High School student Maren Kirkland on her appointment to the United States Naval Academy.

Kirkland is a senior at Billings Senior High School. She is a National Honor Society member, President of the Yellowstone County 4H Club, soccer and tennis All-State, and won second place in the American Mathematics Competition in 2014. Kirkland is also a volunteer with her school’s Senior Advocates program.

“Maren Kirkland has proved herself to be an upstanding citizen and a hardworking student who I’m confident will thrive as she continues to serve her community and her country,” Daines stated. “I’m proud to congratulate Maren on her latest in a long list of accomplishments – her appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy – and look forward to watching her become a future leader of our state and nation.”

“Maren is a rising Montana star and I’m incredibly thankful for her service and dedication to our state and nation,” Tester said. “Maren’s academic, athletic, and civic skills set her apart as a strong military academy nominee. I’m proud to congratulate Maren on her acceptance and wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”

“Bravo zulu, to Maren! Given her long record of success and accomplishment, I’m sure she will be hearing that quite a bit as she builds a career in the U.S. Navy,” said Rep. Zinke, a retired U.S. Navy Commander. “Nominating Montana’s best and brightest for our nation’s service academies is a privilege, and I take it very seriously. Maren represents the absolute best of her peers and I know she will make Montana proud.”

The U.S. Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland.
