U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today took to the U.S. Senate floor after Senate Democrats refused to allow regularly scheduled committees to meet.
Harlowton Mayor Jeff Sell was set to testify in the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power at 2:30PM ET. Democrats refused to allow a hearing on S. 685, the Clean Water for Rural Communities Act that would authorize two Bureau of Reclamation rural water projects critical to Montana: the Mussel-Shell Judith Rural Water System and the Dry-Redwater Regional Water Authority System.
Daines went to the floor to blast the move and underscore the urgency of this hearing by showing five water samples from Circle, Montana. When a similar issue, lack of clean drinking water, broke last year in Flint, Michigan, Republicans gave Democrats from Michigan the opportunity to speak and secure resources for them. Similar courtesy should be given to rural America.

“These samples all came from Circle, MT,” Daines stated. “This unacceptably unclean tap water is from the homes of Montanans and North Dakotans right now. The Mayor of Harlowton, Montana, a town of 1,000 in rural central Montana, is here today to testify. I met with him yesterday. He spent over a $1000 on a flight, almost $600 on a hotel not to mention cost of incidentals — and now the Democrats won’t let him speak? Why?”
